Overall, pretty entertaining. Random thoughts, spoilers ahoy:

Dumbledore is a cockblocker. Couldn't recruiting Slughorn have waited?

Sure was nice of the Death Eaters to make sure all the muggles got off of that bridge before it collapsed.

I love Luna Lovegood. She's so completely out of it. She's probably my favorite character at this point. Also, those x-ray specs are stylin'.

Ron really was thick as a whale in this installment. Harry, too, seemed to have caught a severe case of the retarded when he ran after Bellatrix LeStrange when the Order of the Phoenix is right fucking there.

Speaking of Bellatrix, Helena Bonham Carter seemed to be channeling Johnny Depp channeling Keith Richards. She had the Captain Jack wobble down.

This was the druggiest installment yet, with two extended drug scenes: Ron drunk on love potion, and Harry after taking the cocaine luck potion. Harry's behavior on the potion was particularly funny. Harry with an excess of confidence is kind of a dick.

Definitely a feeling of middle-movie-itis this time around. Lots of setting stuff up, but not much in the way of a story arc for this specific film. Snape revealing that he's the "half-blood prince" feels like it was supposed to be climactic, except that mystery was pretty minor—the only reason it seemed like it should be at all relevant was the title—and had already been overshadowed by the showdown in the tower. "Yes, I am the half-blood prince!" "Um...okay. Good for you?"

- I don't think all the people got off the bridge. That was my impression. Plus, I believe a newspaper in a later scene mentions the death toll.

- I think the movie handled the teenage hormones part better than the book did. I remember being really pissed at all 3 of them for being thick.

- After Harry drank the potion, he reminded me more of Willis than ever before! ( http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v51/siempredescalzo/GIFS/opyzqa.gif ) I'm at work, so I can't copy this and upload it for inlining myself. Hot-linking is bad, Mmm-kay?

I really need to put my review up on it.
I agree with you on the half blood prince
reveal. So what? Does that mean anything?

And Harry should have done something at the
end.

Other wise I loved it.

In the book, you get a lot of flashbacks to when Snape was a student with Harry's parents and how Snape was always being picked on by other students. Snape was the original Emo kid! You see how the three interacted and how Harry's parents were betrayed in the end. Kind of significant stuff, and yet none of it is in the movie.

They did have a bit of that in one of the earlier movies, with Harry's dad and his friends taunting Snape as kids. I can't remember which one though.

Harry in general is kind of a dick.

But yes, he was hilarious.

He's more of a schmuck than a dick most of the time.

I love the look he gives Slughorn after basically commanding him to come with him to Hagrid's. That was gold.

Just the way I read this in my head was hilarious.

Also, dude, this movie was purely 2 1/2 hours of Filler, fillerfillerfillerfiller.

I stopped reading the books after Goblet of Fire so I have no idea wtf the whole Half Blood Prince thing was about. Honestly if the book is named after it you would've thought that it would've been a big enough plot point to warrant more than like 10 minutes of screen time. BUT EVIDENTLY NOT.

Most of what I remember from the movie is Draco being a pansyass bitch, really. That's all that stood out for me.

I've been informed by a reliable source (my mom, who's read all of the books) that the "Half-Blood Prince" mystery is more prominent in the book, and the reveal plays out very differently (apparently the Death Eaters burning Hagrid's house is not in the book).

I think they handled Draco pretty well in this one, actually. At first he's all proud to have joined the Death Eaters and been chosen for an important mission, but slowly starts to crack under the pressure. As much of a self-centered asshole as he is, he's not a sociopath and murder is way beyond the petty villainy he'd engaged in before.

Not only does the term "Half-Blood Prince" actually mean something, it's an important part of character history for Snape. Not crucial, but important.

My mom is also considerably more up on the books than I am (have read them, but not in a while), and spent a while after the movie complaining about the things they left out while adding in the scene where the Death Eaters burn the Weasley house.

The house burning seems like a weird thing to add, unless the real ending was horibbly long and convoluted or somthing like that.
The house burnings in general pissed me off and made me wtf a little too. Wouldn't there be some spell that could put the fire out with magic? You've got like 10 wizards RIGHT THERE, and all you're gonna do is stare at it like cows? But I digress.

They did handle Draco's progression of emotions in this one pretty well, but I don't think that he was suppossed to be the main point of the movie like it was for me. I mean, it is 'Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince' and not 'Draco Malfoy and that Snazzy Looking Closet'.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince in Fifteen Minutes

Excerpt:

The Big Day

[Goalkeeper Ron is about to vomit on his geometrical eggtoast and Harry may or may not have spiked his juice, but the important thing is that Luna is wearing a lion on her head.]

YES. Luna dressed up all Raider Nation for the Gryffindor team was awesome.

They needed soccer-like fight songs for the different Quidditch teams; soccer fans are always singing their team's songs when I manage to catch a game.

That or simple chants. "DE-FENSE!"

And "Weasly is Our King" is a goddamn HYMN?

You know, I forgot about that. Not surprising; I forget about everything.

That said, don't you agree that they should have put "Weasley is Our King" in the movie?

Harry with an excess of confidence is kind of a dick.

Fixed that for ya.

He went downhill. In the first couple of books he was a cute and--dare I say it--spunky kid floundering through some pretty bizarre circumstances. Then he became a lazy entitled whiner. Then somewhere between books 4 and 5 he OD'd on whatever it was Dr. Jekyll invented and turned into a full-blown bitchy asshole. I don't know what he's like in the seventh, because I just can't bring myself to care enough to read it.

The emerging winners for my favorite characters turned out to be Neville and Luna. Even Hermione cheesed me off in the end.

Adolescence? ;)

Hermione was kind of dull this time around, which is weird considering that the whole love triangle between her, Ron, and whatsername was such a focus.

You should read the seventh book if Neville's one of your favorites. If he doesn't save the whole story, he comes close.
