In the book, you get a lot of flashbacks to when Snape was a student with Harry's parents and how Snape was always being picked on by other students. Snape was the original Emo kid! You see how the three interacted and how Harry's parents were betrayed in the end. Kind of significant stuff, and yet none of it is in the movie.
