gwalla: (election 08)
So, the impeachment of Rod Blagojevich went through, and the result was that the Illinois Senate unanimously voted to kick him to the curb. He officially can never again hold state office in Illinois.

A lot of commentators were saying he was nuts for boycotting the trial because it meant he couldn't present a defense, instead going on nationally watched talk shows to insist on his innocence. I think I know his game, though: he's trying to pull a Liddy. He probably realized that his political career is kaput, and figured that if he managed to keep his name out there, and maybe sow some doubt about his guilt in the general public—even though there was no way he could in the Illinois Senate, or Federal court either most likely—he may be able to parley his notoriety into a job as a commentator. I hope he's unsuccessful; I hate seeing people get rewarded for being crooked.
