I am proud to say I caught the reference in the first part. But I don't know what IPA means.

See, when I see "IPA", I think "International Phonetic Alphabet". So what immediately came to mind for me was some linguists trying to spell "vindaloo" phonetically and for some reason mangling the pronunciation...
