So today I got lost in San Francisco on the way to the test, hit another car (not very hard and there was no visible damage, but we exchanged our info), and, once there, failed the fuck out of the exam. Then I managed to find a way home, but traffic was insane.


This day has been a thoroughly miserable experience.

Driving in SF confuses the fuck out of me too, I managed to inadvertently run a red on my last trip into the city.

If I'm in a familiar area, it's all good. But SF State is in a part of the city I'm not sure I've ever been to in my life, and Google Maps' instructions were confusing. I thought I was following their instructions but I ended up in Daly City.

On the way back, I pretty much just headed off in the vague direction of home, turned onto streets with names I recognized (Taraval! There's a Muni Metro line there so it must head towards downtown sort of!) and using Sutro Tower as a landmark until I reached the Inner Sunset. I have a friend who used to live there and I used to visit him all the time, so long-dormant synapses awoke and I was home free...very very slowly, because traffic was miserable from the right lane trying to get onto Octavia all the way to the bridge. Brake lights as far as the eye could see.

Oh god, usually the only reason I choose to drive into SF is to pick up stuff from AFA, which has me taking Octavia as well and I know this situation all too well. Usually at that point I just sit back and go "Well, at least I have a prius!" because there's no way I'm getting over 30mph or so for the next hour to the bridge.
